Narrative: SPRUCE MESSAGE VISIT Date: 2025-07-10 Encounter: Photo review (otoscope images sent by parent) followed by Spruce text message CC: Right ear pain after several days of lake swimming, consistent with swimmer's ear. HPI: Henry woke in the middle of the night with right ear pain. He had been swimming Thursday through Sunday at the cabin. A 2-year-old at the cabin was hospitalized with croup on Monday. Pain was present on manipulation/touch of the outer ear. No fever or cold symptoms. Parent attempted to view the ear canal with a Bebird device but Henry was too uncomfortable. Parent sent a photo (which turned out to be parent's own ear). Assessment: Dr. Hobbs assessed pain with manipulation of the outer ear as the key diagnostic feature of swimmer's ear (otitis externa). The visible ear drum in the photo sent was assessed as looking normal. Plan: Prescription for ear drops sent to Walgreens Vernon immediately. No restriction on swimming.
