Phone Visit
Narrative: SPRUCE MESSAGE VISIT Date: 2025-01-14 Encounter: Spruce text message CC: Deep congested cough persisting for several days with no fever or other symptoms, parent querying possible COVID-19. HPI: Miles had a deep congested cough for a few days prior to 2025-01-14. He had normal energy, no fever, and no other symptoms. The parent had been managing with ibuprofen on a couple of nights. She was prompted to consider COVID-19 after reading a parent board post about atypical presentations. Miles had also had his eyes dilated at an eye appointment the prior week and experienced dry, odd-feeling eyes for two days afterward, temporally coinciding with cough onset. Assessment: Dr. Hobbs noted many viruses were circulating including COVID-19 and that the presentation sounded like a mild viral illness not requiring testing unless that information would change management. He attributed the eye symptoms to the viral illness rather than the eye dilation. Plan: Symptom management continued at home with ibuprofen as needed. Testing deemed unnecessary given mild, improving course. No in-person visit recommended. Parent reassured. Medications: - Ibuprofen standard dose, as needed for comfort (new) Key clinical quotes: "Lots of different viruses going around now, covid being one of them" "If he's having a normal set of symptoms, you'd only test if that info is helpful somehow" "I bet his eye symptoms are more related to his illness" Source: Spruce conversation t_25GF4V55J8800
